As of the 2010 Census, Grantsboro had a population of 690. The town was incorporated in 1997 and has a small business district made up of several restaurants and shops. Grantsboro is part of the Pamlico County School District and has one elementary school, Pamlico County Primary School.

Grantsboro is located near the Neuse River and is a popular destination for fishing and boating. Just a few miles outside of town is the Croatan National Forest, which offers outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and hunting. The nearby town of New Bern, about 20 miles away, is known for its historic downtown area and the Tryon Palace, a former colonial governor's mansion that now serves as a museum.
